Our story
Nine years ago, a missionary encounter changed the lives of our family.
While serving in Malawi, Jack and Ronda Rose met Latter-day Saint refugees living in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp. They discovered families struggling with hunger, isolation, fear, and very limited opportunities.
They couldn't walk away.
What began as a small effort to ease their suffering has grown into Ammon's Rescue.
Today we work to help refugee families meet their immediate needs, become self-reliant through education and business opportunities, and find pathways to safer futures.
One family at a time, we believe lives can change.
We measure our impact in how much it changes the trajectory of each family's future. We care for "the one."
When refugees find us, they are often in desperate situations, burdened by the weight of their struggles. Many arrive with empty stomachs, tired eyes, and a sense of hopelessness. They carry stories of loss and fear, seeking safety and support in a world that feels overwhelmingly harsh. Our mission is to provide the care and assistance they desperately need to begin rebuilding their lives.
Once a family's basic needs are met, we bring the refugee family, their sponsor group, and our organization together to discuss goals and opportunities for the future. Together, we identify the family's interests and determine appropriate next steps, which may include EnglishConnect, BYU-Pathway Worldwide, the "Starting and Growing My Business" course, or employment and career development resources. This collaborative process empowers families to take ownership of their future and build a path toward greater independence and self-reliance.
While refugee families wait for the opportunity to immigrate, we help them build stable, self-sufficient lives in Malawi. Through English language learning, education, and our Fill a Dream business initiative, we invest in their abilities, talents, and potential. Because our assistance is limited to five years per family or individual, we focus on equipping them with the skills, resources, and confidence to support themselves today and prepare for the opportunities ahead.
Our ultimate goal is to help refugee families immigrate to a country where they can pursue citizenship, greater security, and a brighter future. We want them to be prepared not just to start over, but to thrive. By developing their education, work experience, language skills, and entrepreneurial abilities, we help prepare them to become independent, productive members of their new communities. We envision families who can contribute meaningfully, support themselves and their loved ones, and build a future filled with opportunity and hope.
